Grahamstown Woodworkers

October 2015

The October meeting, held in the Masonic Hall, courtesy of the Freemasons, was a visit from Strand Hardware, Port Elizabeth, at which Andre Esterhuyse gave a talk on "Workshop Geometry".

This excellent talk was not easy to record in photos, but John Keulder, with his usual skill, managed to capture some details shown below. Fuller details of the constructions covered by Andre - hexagons, octagons, pentagons and ellipses - are given in the downloadable .pdf file.

After describing the constructions, Andre demonstrated the use of a jig for planing wood into hexagonal or octagonal cross-sections.

To complete a fascinating and very informative evening, Andre then described the making of his magnificent clock with its intricate wooden gear system.

Gerard Wong, also from Strand Hardware, had brought along a selection of items for sale and members were able to see the new range of Record chucks, recently released.
